Sonic the Hedgehog Chili Dog Recipe

 In Recipes

Everyone knows that our favorite blue hedgehog loves his chili dogs. Join me in a cook-off and test Sonic’s chili dog recipe vs. my in-house favorite chili recipe (crafted by my wonderful Fiance; who’s a great cook I must add!).

Here’s a chili dog recipe a la Sonic. His recipe is pretty standard, a bit mild, but still flavorful.

Here’s my Fiance’s recipe. If you prefer a more bold flavor (or spice), I’d recommend giving this one a try!

Chili Dog Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 2 -14.5 oz cans of diced tomatoes (choose whichever flavors suit your palette. We use a variety, from ‘zesty jalapenos’ to ‘green pepper, celery, & onion.’)
  • 1 bottle Cholula hot sauce
  • 1 -14.5 oz can of chili beans (again, choose whichever flavor suits your palette -mild or hot sauce)
  • 5-7 baby dill pickles, chopped (unusual, I know, but trust me on this!)
  • Garlic salt -1 teaspoon
  • Chili powder -1 teaspoon
  • 1 small can tomato paste

chili ingredients——-

  • Hot dogs (preferably grilled)
  • Hot dog buns
  • Toppings of choice (shredded cheese, onions, etc.)

chopping pickles

Chili Instructions:

1. Brown your burger with the garlic salt and half of the bottle of Cholula (if you don’t like spicy food, cut back to 1/4 bottle).

2. Add your canned tomatoes and chili beans, chili powder, diced pickles, can of tomato paste and a 1/4 bottle of Cholula sauce. Stir together and let simmer for a minimum of 30 minutes.
(Honestly, simmering for upwards of 2 hours really makes the chili even better!)

3. Cook up your hot dogs, add a layer of chili, top anyway you like and enjoy!

You can definitely sub out ingredients for less spicy versions. That’s what’s so great about this recipe!
