Farmer Maggot’s Mushrooms and Bacon

 In Recipes

“Two of Maggot’s sons and his three daughters came in, and a generous supper was laid on the large table. The kitchen was lit with candles and the fire was mended. Mrs. Maggot bustled in and out. One or two other hobbits belonging to the farm household came in. In a short while fourteen sat down to eat. There was beer a plenty and a mighty dish of mushrooms and bacon, beside much other farmhouse fare.” – The Fellowship of the Ring

Nobody quite enjoys mushrooms like a hobbit does. As such, no Hobbit Day feast would be complete without at least 1 mushroom-based dish. It would only make sense then for us to whip up some of Farmer Maggot’s mushrooms and bacon. This simple dish, which we decided to add potatoes to in order to round it out, makes a great second breakfast or side dish for dinner.

4. Once the bacon is 3/4 cooked add the mushrooms and garlic. We added whole mushrooms, but you’re welcome to slice them up. Continue pan frying everything for another 7-10 minutes.

5. While the mushrooms and bacon cook, dice your onion up.

6. Once the mushrooms and bacon are cooked, add in the potatoes and onion. Add salt and pepper to taste, then cook until the potatoes are soft.

Not much of a recipe overall, as it’s a super simple dish to prepare, but it’s perfect for a hobbit meal. Hope you guys enjoy!
