Nerd Themed Sugar Cookies
This weekend’s project with the boyfriend this time around involved some holiday baking. We started out making Christmas cookies with a recipe that’s been passed down since my Great Grandma. Our holiday shapes, including gingerbread men, candy canes, and snowmen, quickly became less traditional as we rolled out more dough. Eventually they turned into Batman, Stark Trek, Harry Potter, Legend of Zelda, Halo, and Superman themed shapes. Oh the joys of being nerds :-).
1 1/4 cup powered sugar
2 3/4 cup flour
Pinch of salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 cup butter
2 eggs beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Mix the dry ingredients together. Fold in the butter, then add the eggs and vanilla.
Roll out and cut into shapes. Place on a cookie sheet and bake about 10 minutes (until the cookies are a slight golden color on the edges, but NOT brown).
2 cups powered sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 Tablespoons shortening or butter
2 Tablespoons cream or milk (more if necessary to get desired consistency)
Mix ingredients using a beater on high speed until creamy and thick enough to spread. Wait until the cookies have cooled off before frosting.
While there are a lot of cool, nerdy themed cookie cutters on the market, you don’t necessarily have to buy these to create fun geeky cookies. Further, you may have a last minute event that doesn’t leave you time to order cutters, or you may not be able to find just the right shape for your fandom party. Enter our Google image paper patterns again!
Do an image search and print out your favorite nerdy logos or shapes. Cut them out and they become the perfect cookie cutter outline. Add some colored frosting for additional detail and you’ve got edible treats perfectly on theme!
