Dungeons & Dragons D20 Christmas Countdown

 In DIY Projects

Ever since I was little, one of our family Christmas traditions has been to countdown to Christmas using an advent calendar.  This year I wanted to create a countdown calendar that was inspired by Dungeons and Dragons by using D20 dice.

Supplies

  1. Scissors
  2. Tape
  3. Glue stick or hot glue gun (*I’d highly recommend the hot glue gun over the glue stick)
  4. D20 paper pattern (3 sheets)
  5. Marker, pen, or ring stickers
  6. Prizes to put in the dice

Supplies needed to make a paper 20-sided dice

Instructions

1. Cut out the 3 pieces of the D20 paper pattern.

Cut out the d20 pattern pieces

2. Fold/crease all lines to prep the dice. Don’t glue anything yet.

Fold the d20 pattern pieces

3. Flip the pattern over and tap the edges of the 5 and 13 together and the 14 and 6.

Tape the 3 pieces of the pattern together

4. Using the numbered guides, start gluing the tabs to form the D20. There are 2 tabs without numbers. These tabs will stick out and should not be glued. They are meant to be the access point to tear the dice open to get to the prize inside each day.

If you are making a regular D20 and not the advent calendar, cut off 1 of the unlabeled tabs and glue the other one just like all the others.

Glue the paper D20 together

5. Don’t forget to add your prize before gluing that last few tabs!

D&D minis for D20 dice prize

Repeat the above steps for the number of D20 dice you want in your countdown, circle the countdown numbers, and display your dice collection on the mantle. This idea would make a great thank you gift for a group of D&D players to make and give to their DM. Let me know down below if you have other ideas for prizes to fill the dice with. And if you like the geeky stockings on our mantle, you can easily make your own.
