DIY Mario & Legend of Zelda Snowflake Printable Patterns
Cutting out nerdy snowflakes can be a fun winter project, plus they make awesome geek decorations during the colder months! I’ve seen a number of patterns for Star Wars and Dr. Who snowflakes, but few to none for some of our favorite classic Nintendo characters. As a result, I decided to create my own template patterns for Mario and Legend of Zelda themed snowflakes! Read on for tips and downloadable patterns.
Instructions:
1. Start with a square piece of paper (cut off the extra rectangle portion if using an 8.5×11 piece of computer paper).
2. Fold your square in half diagonally, matching opposite corners. Fold your newly formed triangle in half 2 more times.
3. Cut out all gray or black shaded regions.
4. Unfold, hang up, and enjoy!
Tips:
-Thinner paper will be easier to work with and cut.
-Be sure your starting paper is square and your folds are neat and crisp. Ensuring these items will yield the best results.
-Having an Xact-o knife on hand will allow you to cut finer details (I only had a pair of scissors on me at the time of creation, so I wasn’t able to make as many cuts as I had initially wanted).
-Resist the urge to unfold your snowflake before you’ve finished cutting. You’ll get the most crisp edges and repeating patterns if you keep it folded until done.
-Be careful on narrow edges that touch folds (e.g. the mushroom head on the Mario snowflake or Link’s foot). You don’t want to accidentally cut the fold portion off -this will cause your snowflake to fall apart.
-Have patience while cutting (taking a break if needed) and remember to have fun!

:O :O :O :O :O :O I realize this is an older post but super impressive.
Thanks! I had a lot of fun designing these guys.
This is impressive! I know this is old, but I was wondering if you could maybe do Supernatural? I’ve been trying to find some simpler snowflakes to make but I can’t find any. If you don’t want to or don’t have the time, that’s alright! I hope you have a wonderful day/night!
Hi Jay. I love the suggestion! Thank you. Supernatural has a lot of intricate symbols, so it may be on the harder side too, but I’ll give it some thought and see what I can come up with. Are there any specific items you would hope to be represented within the snowflake?
