12 Budget Friendly Halloween Costumes You Can Find in Your Closet

 In Cosplay

Low on cash and/or time this Halloween season? Never fear. There are plenty of fun, fandom themed costumes you can build using items you already own in your closet. Dig some key items out of your wardrobe and pair them up with a little makeup or a prop and you’re ready to go! No fuse, little to no extra spending, and quick Halloween costume solutions. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to cover the typical nurse or construction worker in this post -you know we have to get nerdy!)

1. Supernatural
Pick your favorite character from Supernatural and go closet diving. From flannel shirts and jeans to trench coats, this character cast is sure to match something you have on hand.

2. Mario & Friends (Luigi, Peach, & Daisy)
Bust out that old prom dress hiding in the back of your closet and pair it with a dollar store crown, or throw on your overalls (or jeans and suspenders) paired with a colored t-shirt and hat and you’re set to go!
3. Mario’s Enemies -Shy Guy (or Snifit), Kamek (or Magikoopa)
Being bad can be a lot of fun. Don a colored robe and simple mask to complete these fun costumes.

4. No Face (Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away)
Again, pair a simple robe or sheet with a mask and you’re set for Halloween.
5. Superhero in Disguise
Put on your “average civilian clothes” and best pair of thick rimmed glasses. Don’t forget to wear your ‘secret’ superhero shirt underneath, so when you’re called to save the day you can dash off to the rescue!

6. Jigsaw (Saw)
Pull out your suit and pair it with some red and white face-paint. Bonus points if you have a tricycle to ride around on.
7. Minions (Despicable Me)
These guys have grown quite popular over the past few years, but with good cause. Throw on your overalls and a yellow shirt and out the door you go. Bonus -talk nonsense and carry a banana around.

8. MIB
Kick some alien butt in your best black and white suit. Don’t forget the shades!
9. Zombie
This one may take a little more time for the effects/makeup, but you can literally go any direction with your zombie costume. Take your worn work/scrub type-clothes that are a little dirty and beat up, add some fake blood and start practicing that zombie shuffle and groan.

10. Family Guy
Just like Supernatural, the character cast gives you so many options for simple Halloween costumes -it doesn’t get much easier to throw a costume together based on the clothes in your closet.
11. Doctor Who Companion
Get ready to travel through time with one of these fun, but easy options!

12. Pokemon Trainers / Gym Leaders
There are so many characters to choose from in this category, especially given all the generations of Pokemon there are now.

There you have it; 12 easy Halloween costume ideas you can find in your closet; talk about quick and budget friendly! Still needs more ideas? Don’t forget that everyday cosplay outfits are great options too (Ms. Frizzle anyone? Or how about Sheeta from Miyazaki’s Castle in the Sky?).

Hi Tony! Yes, Amy is an awesome costume idea! I have BBT as a suggestion on my group costume post, so I left them off this post. Couldn’t agree more though on the easy factor -can’t wait to see pictures!

Sam and Dean would be a fun duo costume. Good luck convincing! 🙂

Thanks Ashlee! Ash and Pikachu sounds like a fun combo. There’s a very good chance you guys will be able to find a cheap denim jacket at a local thrift store. I’ve found some great costume building pieces for a steal at said stores.
