about me

the story behind

The Nifty Nerd is all about the art of nerdology. From Star Wars to Settlers of Catan, from Magic the Gathering to Super Mario Bros. for the NES; I’ve got your fandoms, interests, and passions covered! Here at The Nifty Nerd blog I fuse geek passions and nerd culture with classic style.

Nerdology (n) – The area of knowledge often thought of as nerdy or geeky. This includes (but is not limited to): science, books, cosplay, anime, gaming, TV & movie fandoms, technology… etc.

rowing up I had many interests. A couple of the predominant ones included anything related to arts & crafts, as well as inclinations towards anything geeky in nature. Over the years I’ve dabbled in art mediums from clay and cake decorating, to quilting and painting. I grew up playing video games and getting lost in books. To this day I have fond memories of playing board games with my family and enjoying Duck Hunt on my NES when I was a little girl.

My first true obsession (and the biggest one still today) developed in middle school when I became enamored by Tolkien’s world of Middle Earth from the Lord of the Rings. I still remember the exact night the fandom entered my life.

It wasn’t until the summer of 2014 when I had a sudden realization…that I could combine my love for art projects and passion for nerdy subjects together!
Having newly moved into my (now) husband’s apartment at the time, we were ready for some redecorating. Both of us being big nerds, we wanted to share and display our passions, but we also wanted our place to still feel grown up, modern, and stylish. It was out of this endeavor that The Nifty Nerd was born! ….our search for home decor turned into a fun DIY way of unleashing our inner nerds in style.

Today I run The Nifty Nerd during my downtime between full-time work, family, and play.
